Developing the next generation of resistojets

OhmSpace is a pre-spinout project focussed on the development of high-performance resistojets

The OhmSpace team is formed of researchers from the Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering research group, based within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) at the University of Southampton.


STAR enables both all-electric GEO satellites and more agile LEO platforms

The innovative STAR resistojet is capable of using the same xenon propellant as the primary Electric Propulsion system. The need for hydrazine secondary propulsion is removed, along with the associated AIT costs.

STAR with water has the same performance as hydrazine monopropellant but at zero AIT costs. STAR with ammonia can produce higher performance than hydrazine bipropellant at lower AIT costs.
